I have
gotten a lot of e-mail from the left defending the Democrats actions and
accusing Alito of not answering the questions, And certain talking points
and phrases continue to pop up. Their ignorance and selective memory is astounding. First up I keep seeing the phrase "rubberstamp". "The Republicans just Rubberstamp Bush's nominees". Does anyone remember Harriet Miers? The Senators balked at her nomination because of a lack of qualifications (in their eyes). However the left then said that the Republicans were fracturing. So If we approve all his nominees we are rubber stamping. If we vote one down or call for one to step down we are falling apart. That's fair? You can tell that the left is out of control when they defend Teddy Kennedy. Even the Mainstream Media was critical of his performance. Aside from being a bully and his attempts to paint Alito a Racist his lack of preparation was glaring. He read verbatim from a script that was prepared for him and when Alito challenged him or tried to correct him Kennedy would simply stammer and stutter looking helplessly through his notes. The liberal bloggers say they need more like Kennedy who was doing his job. Are you serious? He was useless. He spent twenty minutes on the subject of CAP when it was obvious Alito had nothing to do with the groups racist agenda. Guilt by association is not a fair tactic. If it is than Robert Byrd is still a member of the KKK. If Kennedy was doing his job he would not have demanded that the hearings be stopped in order to vote on subpoenas for documents pertaining to CAP that were already a matter of public record. Not only did the New York Times already run a story based on those very documents....and they cited Teddy Kennedy's website as a source! The man is pathetic and laughable... The Democrats are claiming Alito did not answer any questions. The record shows he answered 98% toGinsbergs 80% so I think that was a pathetic attempt. Lets look at the Democrats selective memory. Clinton nominated Souter and Ginsberg. Two very Liberal judges. The Republicans voted in the majority to confirm both of them because they were more than qualified. The hearings are to check those very qualifications and to determine if the nominee can rule on cases based on facts, precedents, backed up by the constitution. Fast forward ten years. For weeks leading up to the Alito, and Roberts confirmation hearings the Democrats told us how the judges would have to answer questions in order to receive a yes vote from them. Did that happen with the Liberal choices? Apparently not because they were confirmed and the threat of a filibuster never surfaced. What it boils down is this: The left is upset that character assassination doesn't work. They are also worried because the Democrats are in disarray and if they lose in 2008 the Supreme court will almost completely end up having a conservative bench. They lost the Presidency, they lost the legislative branch, and their only grasp is the judiciary. Unfortunately for them their idea of a moral ethical man is Teddy Kennedy who still can't get Ms. Kopechne's blood off his hands. I'd be a drunk too. -Bert |
