| I want all of you lovely
Conservatives to stop and think back for a moment. What have the democrats
achieved this year? I'm talking in terms of Senate and Congressional
work. Thought so. The Ironic thing is that they have been in front of the cameras nonstop. I swear I once saw Nazi Pelosi's nose begin to melt from the lights. They look haggard, tired, and a little disenchanted. And I'm not sure why. They claim to be excited about their prospects in the upcoming elections. They are supposedly convinced that the American people are fed up with how the republicans are handling being in the majority. Let us take a look at how the Democrats have been handling being the minority. Are you all sitting comfortable two square on your botty? Than I'll begin. Things started off as they ended last year. President George Bush's plan to make a portion of Social Security available for investing. Groovy. The left responded with ads warning he was going to privatize Social Security with images of hapless elderly persons who have had their entire retirement pinched by Bush. Not Groovy. Social Security was not to become the albatross around Bush's neck that everyone thought it would. This was due to the rising death rate in Iraq. Our incredibly fair and balanced mainstream media began trumpeting every military death from the rooftops with a zeal and perkiness only found in beauty pageants. When it became obvious that the Bush Administration had no intention of addressing the consistent reports of total carnage and chaos they grabbed the proverbial bull with both hands and ran it into the ground. With one eye on the polls and one on MSNBC every move was calculated to a point where failure was impossible...almost. The casualties mounted and the country ( the world as well but when it comes to security no one counts but us) had a sense that we were in a war we could not win and that things were going terribly wrong. and as with all wars the country tires and the Presidents polls sink. Behind the scenes the Ranking Democrats and even a few non ranking Democrats and maybe even a few iffy Republicans were seen doing happy dances behind the Senate away from the floodlights of the media. So now is the time to ring the death bell and fire the last salvo. "Why are we in Iraq?" It was WMD's wasn't it? And we found none. So on and so forth. This was one of there first mistakes (aside from registering as Democrats) The Impeachment word came out and this is something that should be considered very carefully. Bush apparently lied about the weapons of mass destruction therefore he needs to be investigated, then impeached. Now If you ask any lawyer you need to conclude the investigation before you begin impeachments proceedings. But it doesn't stop you from saying the word at every opportunity. The Republicans in a rare show of backbone agreed but warned that all names will come out and this did not sit well with the left. Suddenly we have quotes from leading Democrats going back as far as 1998 concerning the threat of Sadaam Hussien. Bill, Hillary, Leahy, Burglar...etc. All spoke on record as to the need for immediate concern over Hussien's weapons. OOPS!. They slowly went quiet and in the end truth was obvious no matter how you dress it. Bush may have been wrong about the WMD's but he did not lie. He simply relied on the information given to him by the people he relied on. Information many other countries were using. For about twenty minutes the rebuttal from the left was "we didn't see the same information as the president" but they quickly dropped that fearing further embarrassment. All in all things were looking good for the Democrats as Bush's polls continued to decline but sad polls do not command a change in commander, and by this time it was apparent that They had but one goal, The deconstruction of the Bush Administration. Enter Valerie Plame. Our country was riveted because a CIA employee who may have at one time been an operative but for the last five years was commanding a desk in Virginia had been "Outed". If anyone can tell me how and when, and where national security was impaired I'll buy you a pint. It didn't matter though because the Media had Karl Rove pegged as the culprit. In fact as the jury began deliberations the press had Rove guilty on 23 counts. Once again there was Dancing Behind the Senate.. Unfortunately not long after the dancing commenced the jury brought back a five counts against Scooter libby...I'll say that again. the Democrats were expecting 23 indictments handed down against Karl Rove the Evil Architect and instead got five indictments against a guy no one ever heard of...Sweet is the wine of Irony (I may have mad that up). I'm beginning t see why the Democrats are downtrodden. By the way, While all of this was happening they found the time to object to John Roberts. One of the best candidates ever to be nominated. Well, they still have some cause to celebrate, Bush's popularity was still in the toilet but as far as I know popularity does not dictate the presidency. I think I forgot Katrina..That big storm thing. No I am not making light of the situation but the category five hurricane that struck the levees and killed ten thousand people, mainly poor blacks was actually a category three which killed less than 1500 and percentage wise killed more whites. The Democrats hopped on this real quick calling for investigations into President Bush's handling of the disaster meanwhile those 1000 busses began to rust... The rest of the year was devoted to Iraq. So many possibilities to capitalize. So little time. Every time A Democrat saw an opportunity to undercut the president I saw my mother grieving over my death . The pain these parents must feel, a part of them dead and it being used to undermine the very person who is trying to protect our nation. A man who has the death of every soldier on his shoulders for the rest of his life. We heard "we can't win" for a fortnight. Then it was "we need a timetable". Now that one stuck. It sort of began with John Murtha's assertion that we are fighting a battle we cannot win. This was the first time I heard that our army was left to starve to death. Anyway in another rare act of testicular fortitude the Republicans forced the Senate into a vote on this issue. Not surprising the vote was 403-3 in favor of not pulling troops out of Iraq. OUCH. Apparently the intense stories of our impending failure were wrong. They may have made a teeny tiny mistake. You see we just had some elections in Iraq. Three to be exact, so I suspect things were not going as bad as The Democrats hoped. Oddly enough some of them continued to call for the immediate "redeployment" of troops. Not The Immediate withdrawal but the Immediate redeployment to surrounding countries. A slight semantics problem? I studied Shakespeare’s English in college and I can say even the Bard would be impressed by Murha's reworking of the language. The only tactic(s) available to the Democrats was to either ignore the elections or put a negative spin on them such as Chuck Schumer's assertion we imposed the elections on the Iraqi's. Maybe he's right. Maybe the whole Iraq war was simply to test out new voting techniques developed for the 2008 elections in an effort to cut down on voter fraud. Either way it wasn't important because President Bush remembered that he did, in fact have testicles and reminded the nation what a strong leader he is and his numbers jumped 11 points in four weeks. The only thing left to do was end the year with a bang. And the Democrats thought they had that very grenade in the form of the New York Times article about "secret" spying by the Bush Administration. So secret, that on one knew...Except Senator Rockefeller, Nazi Pelosi, Dirty Harry Ried, the FISA courts...I think I was the only one in America who wasn't aware of the Program. Once again there was dancing behind the Senate building but no one doing the jig ever clocked that classified information had been leaked. A major crime. While they were on camera expressing outrage they never thought about somewhere in the vast network of terrorism they were now changing their tactics because they have been giving a heads up by the New York Times. Sadly for them the secret wiretapping extravaganza had no effect on the American people. In fact just the opposite. 64 percent to be exact. There cries for impeachment and investigations (yes in that order) have died down with Hillary Clinton finally weighing in. As usual she was watching the polls before taking action and this time she was way off the mark. Why release a statement condemning the program when many of your fellow Democrats signed off on it and the American people have already shown there support for it? It's been a difficult year for the left. And now with the announcement that troop levels will be scaled down in '06 I think it is safe to say they are scrambling to find ways to take credit for it. Make no mistake here. Everyone knows this had nothing to do with them. Our soldiers will begin coming home because the Keith Olberman's and the Chris Mathew's, and the John Murtha's were wrong. Our military does what it always does...succeed. An evil tonic for the left to drink but drink they have and there is a lot left in the bottle -Bert READ ALL THE BLOGS HERE |
