Some of you may have missed
Joe Leibermans editorial piece in the Wall Street Journal . That's
not surprising being that no major network covered it in any depth or not
at all. Here is why...
"I have just returned from my fourth trip to Iraq in the past 17 months and can report real progress there. More work needs to be done, of course, but the Iraqi people are in reach of a watershed transformation from the primitive, killing tyranny of Saddam to modern, self-governing, self-securing nationhood--unless the great American military that has given them and us this unexpected opportunity is prematurely withdrawn." And that is just the first paragraph. When Congressman Murtha declared that we cannot do anymore in Iraq and that an imediate redeployment is needed virtually every media outlet jumped all over it as if it was a bombshell being dropped in our laps. A bombshell? A Democrat telling us we can't win? Hardly. Joe Leiberman returns from Iraq and has nothing but possitive news and constructive critisism and no one covers it. Why? Well for one thing he is respected by his Republican counterparts. Another is he looks at the issues not the polls. Hillary has made a few trips to the mid east. we know this because she announced she was going and brought along every availiable photagrapher and correspondent. While Hillary used her trips as photo OP's Joe Leiberman quietly flew to Iraq and talked with the troops. No fanfare, no photo sessions just some honest fact finding. Ouch. I bet Senator Leiberman got lots of nasty emails from frothing Democrats. Why is Joe Leiberman's comments not as important as John Murtha's?. Because the mainstream media wants the left to win, even if it means America losing in the middle east. The more Millitary deaths we incure the better for them. They trumpet the newest death tolls with sickening vigor and a "see I told you so" atitude. Joe Lieberman telling the truth that indeed we have had soldiers die and the Democratization of Iraq is not going as smoothly as hoped, that we are winning and those soldiers have not died in vane does not embolden the Democratic party.The Democratic party has put all their eggs in one basket and that basket is Iraq. Have you noticed that push to prove Bush decieved us with war intelligence has faded? That is because it was not working as planned. Yes it pushed the President's poll numbers down but it pushed the Democrats down even farther. So option two: "We cannot win, bring the troops home now". That worked a treat for three weeks and the Media took advantage of it. Then along comes Joey...... Senator Lieberman put a huge hole in the basket and and all the eggs are falling out. The Traditional news outlets who have been our gatekeepers for decades quietly ignored him. Modern Technology is great and we can thank Al Gore for inventing the internet because the word slipped out. Yesterday George Bush gave a much anticipated speech on Border control. The media has been butchering him with his failure to outline a plan to curb Illegal immigration. The constant bashing has taking it's toll on his numbers, as planned. It was not surprising to me that the only network to cover the speech was Fox. MSNBC the other news network didn't bother and the Networks wouldn't dare pre empt Dr. phil, or Oprah or re runs of Springer. Giving Bush air time risks helping his numbers. a risk they are not willing to take -Bert |
