HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN

Things must be looking up in the world today. Iran must have dropped it's plan to build nukes while their president with the name no one can pronounce has shortened it to Steve. I assume Condi Rice organized a Mid East clambake and got the Palestinians and Israelis to settle their differences. I guess Kim Jong Il has checked himself into a mental facility and his entire military was swapped for 98 trillion happy meals. The North Koreans are now Scheduled to be on the next series of Celebrity fit club. I suppose President Bush balanced the budget and Howard Dean moved to Iceland. Not only does Iraq have a budding Democracy but they have bid for the Olympics in 2016.
How do I know all this has happened? How do I know there is no substantial threats in the world?
Because Dick Cheney is a bad shot. The entire world came to a complete halt because Dick Cheney had a minor hunting accident with a buddy. Now Let's put this into perspective. Vice President Cheney did not blow the man's head off with a hand held tactical nuclear missile. He accidentally peppered the man with bird shot from about 30 yards. Now I have been scouring the reports to find justification for all the attention.
Was this a drug deal gone bad?
No.
Were there any helicopters involved?
No.
Did a battalion of Para trooping Nazi's repel out of the trees in spectacular Chuck Norris fashion?
No.
Was Michael Jackson involved?
No.
So aside from the fact that it was the second most powerful man in the world involved what is the big deal? Now granted Cheney's delay sparked some controversy but the fury which was unleashed on Scott McClellan was staggering. So were the quality of the questions. Two of my Favorites...

1)Should the Vice President resign?
2)Would this have been worse if the man had died?

The media is centering on two things. One, Cheney told a small news paper instead of the News corps and two, he waited so long to break the story. We can all debate all night about why he waited so long and the conspiracy theorists have already begun. But the reason he did not tell the DC press is painfully obvious. The press treats him terrible and obsesses over his need for privacy. Why would he rush to report to a bunch of people he dislikes and knows will spin the truth into something resembling Watergate? Bottom line? He doesn't like them. And why should he? Poor David Gregory was so fit to be tied he threw a tantrum on the press floor and called McClellan a "poopie head". In fact Legislation has been introduced to begin impeachment proceeding against Dick Cheney for not reporting to Mr. Gregory First, and President Bush just because...

How stupid has the Press become? John Gambling was talking to ABC News Ann Compton about this story...

GAMBLNG: What else [besides Cheneygate] is being talked about in the White House?

COMPTON: Absolutely nothing. This has sucked the oxygen out of President Bush's trip yesterday. He went all the way to the Wendy's hamburger headquarters in Ohio to talk about health care. . . . . Is that on the front page of any paper today? I did not do a single spot on it yesterday . . . .

COMPTON: [Cheneygate] really has dominated everything else . . . It is a fascinating story and one that ABC has reported very, very vigorously at the ground level and I think very responsibly.

GAMBLING: Ann, let me ask you a question. Is anybody talking about this story . . . about the Dubai Ports World Corporation running our major ports in the United States? You know anything about that?

COMPTON: Whooops. [Nervous laughter]

GAMBLING: The reason I ask you is exactly what you just finished talking about - sucking the oxygen out of the White House and Washington press corps . . . . This is like letting Saudi Arabia do security in our airports. And I think that Washington reporters need to jump on this thing.

COMPTON: Well, send me a quick email, John. It sounds like something I need to see. [END EXCERPT]

The mainstream press has already announced their plans for another week of coverage. Both Time and Newsweek are planning covers relating to the story with Time magazine reporting Cheney's approval rating at 29%. What exactly does that mean? When people were informed of Cheney's lack of hunting skills they went off him? I myself am not too upset with these poll numbers because he won't be running for Vice President again and by the time his second term is up he'll be something like 206 years old so the top job is safely not his.
The lack of any other news has probably endangered us even more. The President of Iran (Steve) was so annoyed he could not make the front page this week he has upped the rhetoric to 27 reasons why Sharon was a bad Prime Minister and proclaimed all people whose name does not begin with an 'A' will be liquidated. Bin Laden has apparently applied for a hunting license because this is the only way he can get any camera time.
The Semantics surrounding Cheney's interview with Brit Hume was very telling. The press in response to the interview has charged that Cheney never took responsibility for his actions. So what does this mean?...

HUME: So, you know all the procedures and how to maintain the proper line and distance between you and other hunters and all that, so how, in your judgment did this happen? Who — what would cause this? What was the responsibility here?

CHENEY: Well, ultimately, I am the guy who pulled the trigger, that fired the round that hit Harry. And you can talk about all of the other conditions that existed at the time, but that is the bottom line. And there is no — it's not Harry's fault. You can't blame anybody else. I'm the guy who pulled the trigger and shot my friend. And I say that's a day I'll never forget….

Sounds like a "my bad" to me. CNN's Jack Cafferty was especially livid that Cheney chose Brit Hume and Fox for his interview. Even claiming Hume softballed the questions. "What happened, Who — what would cause this? What was the responsibility here?" How is that softballing? Truth is If Cheney chose CNN or any other major network no one would know because no one watches them. Except Bin Laden. They give him a safe false sense of accomplishment.
