| Twenty minutes after the Democratic
party decided that they would leave the Iraq war off the platform and
concentrate on looking like they're tough on the war on terror they
realized they had a problem. Paul Hackett. For those unfamilliar with Paul
Hackett Paul Hackett is a veteran of the Iraq war and decided to run for
the Senate in Ohio. He was all the rage, a Democrat war vet critisizing
the war and the Bush administrations handling of it. An over night media
darling. However with the party struggling to change it's image on the
security issue Hackett quickly became a handicap. The majority of
Democrats agreed to leave the war out of the 2006 race. So what to
do? Why sabotage his campaign of course! Apparently Senators Schumer and Reid were feverishly behind the scenes to force him to drop out. The quickest way to make a candidate drop out is to have his money dry up and that is just what they did. Hackett explains that Ried and Schumer were calling his donors and urging them to stop supporting their candidate. I have always maintained that democrats eat their own. I do not agree with Hacketts politics but he deserved a shot and it is not his fault that the Democtats situation is so muddled that they have to use such draconian measures as completely remove any references to the war. I doubt ignoring it will help the either. Another example of the liberals not wanting you to see what they are really about. -Bert |
