"Congress' most basic responsibility is to give our troops the
equipment and training they need to fight our enemies and protect our
nation. They're now failing in that responsibility, and if they do not
change course in the coming weeks, the price of that failure will be paid
by our troops and their loved ones,"
Since the Congress passed
there war funding bill they have bee walking around with great big bulls
eye on their backs. And with the above quote President Bush hit it dead
center. The Republicans have been saying for three years that the
Democrats are undermining the troops. Now we have proof and George Bush is
stepping up his Rhetoric.
Republicans have held the White House for
26 of the last 38 years. And there is a reason for that. We as a people
like to win, and we as a people are not stupid. Most importantly we as a
people love our country. Democrats don't understand that and continue to
strive for mediocrity. Poll after poll is presented to us by the media
that tells us the American people want the war over and the troops home.
Brilliant. I would never have figured that out without a poll. Of course
Americans want the war to come to a conclusion. Of course they want the
troops home. Who doesn't? At the same time they want us to WIN the war and
they want America to be safe. We also see what the Democrats are trying to
do. Take legislative command of the armed forces. This of course is
unconstitutional but that has not stopped the left in the past.
The
Democrats seem to have painted themselves into a corner with their pork
laden war bill. Of course the painting began two years ago with the
emergence of the net roots. Daily KOS, Moveon, and the rest of the Hate
America group. In order to get the vote of the crazy left they have had to
take a completely anti war stance. Last years campaign was waged on the
basis of two promises. The Democrats promised the American people a new
direction in the war in Iraq. And then the promised the Daily KOS crowd
that they would end the war.
Fast Forward a few
months.
President Bush's troop surge has taken away the thunder of
a new direction so the Democrats are left with ending the war. And here is
where the balancing act and deception come into play. The only way they
can bring a halt to the war is to cut off funding. They know to do that
would be political suicide even though they claim that is the will of the
American people. So they inserted a withdrawal date into the war funding
bill. I can only assume this new plan is easier to understand than the one
they described in the now infamous press conference.
Now obviously this
bill will be vetoed by the President. And the troops are in danger of
losing funding. What we have is a game of chicken. And it appears that the
Democrats will lose this one. They are already in the process of
solidifying their image of being soft on terror and abandoning the troops
will not help. Especially when the troop surge is working.
Now a
division within the party is emerging.
The get out of dodge now
crowd and the get out of dodge next year crowd. Pelosi twisted a lot of
arms to get the votes for this bill and aside from the pork the democrats
are getting lot of bad press. And rightfully so. I doubt she will get the
same support a second time. If the Democrats blink they will be perceived
as weak and ineffective. Senator Ried has reiterated his intent on cutting
off funding now. A far cry from his words in November when he said the
exact opposite. Why would he change his tune when we are finally getting
the upper hand?
Failure=success in the Democrats eyes.
Be
careful. You may get what you ask for.
