| I don't know about the rest of you Conservatives but I
am sick and tired of presidential polls. Every day a new poll comes out
that reminds us that the President is apparently not very popular. The
media takes these "revelations" and runs with them. Last time I checked a
sitting President cannot be impeached for simply having bad poll numbers.
I am also tired of the question often posed by Chris Mathews "Is this bad
news for the Republicans?". The left blogsphere too cites these polls as
reasons why they will sweep into power in November. Here is the other side
of the coin...THE DEMOCRATS NUMBERS ARE AT 42 PERCENT. If Bush botched
Hurricane Katrina, if we are losing the war in Iraq, if the government is
spending us into a depression and voting America is ready for a change,
why are their poll numbers so bad? Lets be honest here. the president and
the Republicans have given the Democrats plenty of ammunition and yet all
they can muster only 42 percent after 5 years of telling us Bush
lied? This of course is all total bollocks. Polls mean nothing unless there is an election happening. polls are reactionary. They are emotion driven. Polls only work in elections because the there is undisputable proof...the votes. If your poll says George Bush is beating John Kerry by 2 million votes you point to the votes and the case is closed. No verbal nuances and no stacked queues. Bush or Kerry, period. Other than that polls are more pointless than Al Franken. For example lets say 56% of the people agree the war is going well. Tonight we get lots of news coverage of three mosques in Baghdad have been bombed by the Shiites. Jack Murtha is on telling Chris Mathews we can't win, and Wesley Clark is telling us what he would have done. The next morning Zogby publishes a poll that says only 42 percent of the people think the war is going well. After the Dubai ports debacle became a more important issue than Dick Cheney's hunting accident a poll showed that more Americans trusted Democrats than Republicans when it comes to national security. Gasp! Is this a turning point? have the Democrats finally proven that they are tough on defense? Well the news the night before told us those dirty Araby types would own the ports. Terrorists would be able to wander through the ports with their pockets stuffed with tactical Nuclear weapons! Oh horror of horrors! Besides the fact that no one but us owns our ports, and not all Arabs are terrorists, this poll was bogus. Why? what do you think the poll results would be if the question was "Who do you trust more to deal with Iran?". Democrats? Hardly. Republicans? Doesn't matter. Bush? A resounding yes. Since the Democrats love polls so much They really screwed up by allowing a vote on the ports deal so soon. Since they suddenly are favored to defend the country they could have milked the forty-five day delay and dragged the president through the mud some more. Especially since we are still waiting for the 2006 campaign agenda. Perhaps they could have increased their poll numbers to 46 percent. -Bert |
