PRESIDENTS MISTAKE IS THE DEMOCRATS DOWNFALL

George Bush made a concious and strategic decision not to defend his Iraqi policy. His reasoning was that he wanted to stay possitive. The American people didn't need negative remarks from the president regarding the way. He didn't ignore Iraq, he made six speeches earlier this year. He just refused to rebut the partisan rehtoric comming from the left.
The Democrats saw an opportunity to gain some ground. After all critisizing the Republicans is much easier than having an agenda. They went on the offensive. Every day the latest death toll was trumpeted with vigor in the halls of congress and on the television. George was charaterized as a mass murderer. A man responsible for the deaths our troops and some thirty thousand Iraqi civilians. The fact that Sadaam was personally responsible for the deaths of a million of his own people seems to be a distant memory.
Night after night we saw usual Democrats clamouring before the cameras and appearing on the usual news programs playing armchair Napoleons and telling us that Bush's plan is wrong and we should never have gone into Iraq in the first place. I'm sure the Veterans recovering in the hospitals would be happy to know that have of their government thinks all their sacrifices were for nought.
Couriosly enough this tactic didn't work so well and Bush's polls remained steady.
On to phase two.
Since Bush's illegal occupation of Iraq wasn't going to bring him down they would accuse him of misleading them into voting for the war.
And this was their first mistake. They either forgot that they read the same intelligence or they figured we'd forget. Well we didn't did we. There tactics worked...sort of. Bushes numbers fell swiftly but at the end of the day The Democrats numbers were in the toilet.
Phase three saw the Left adopting talking points based on removing the troops as soon as possible. President continued to ignore his critics, only saying we must stay the course. His numbers plummeted farther and then they decided to hammer in the last nail in his coffin.
John Murtha.
There is now no doubt that Murtha's call for a cut and run strategy disquised weakly as an immediate redeployment was conceived my him and Nazi Pelosi weeks earlier however this was their second and biggest miscalculation.
Apparently at some point someone reminded the Republicans that they were the majority and that they do indeed have some balls. So in a brilliant move they said "okay, you Democrats want the troops out? let's vote on it-now"
Flush.
Thus the downward spiral continued and since then they have continued to shoot themselves in their proverbial Left foot.
Meanwhile George Bush finally found his voice and in a series of speeches mapping his plan and highlighting the successes in Iraq his poll numbers rose and instead of mapping out their own plan for Iraq they continued to insist the troops must come home "As soon as possible" The problen is that president Bush has been saying the same thing for two years and the Democrats balked. As the republicans showed the troops and the American people that they are in fact 150 percent behind the troops the Left continued to preach negativity.
Meanwhile Joe Leiberman who has just returned from a trip to Iraq has stated that we are in fact succeeding has been all but ignored. The one Democrat with a possitive message has been blackballed from his party.
Even with the media bias the American people know that we have had two successful elections in Iraq, there is an Iraqi constitution and the Iraqi's are stepping up...all because of our troops. And yet the left continues to essentially say "The troops have failed". Our country does not want to hear critisims levied at our troops.
There seems to be a consensus that troops will begin to withdraw next year. Our job is almost complete and when we look back on 2005 what will the Democrats have accomplished? A series of negative sound bytes.
Nancy Pelosi "withdraw the troops now"
John Murtha "The army is broken and living hand to mouth"
Chuck Schumer "We have imposed elections on the Iraqi's"
Howard Dean "We cannot win"
John Kerry "troops terrorize Iraqi women and children"

The American people know that the Left does not support the troops. To say things like theyhave while we have young men and women in harms was is disgusting and will reflect on the polls next November. George Bush made a mistake by not defending his decisions sooner but it gave the Democrats lots of rope and sure enough they hung themselves.
