I think
there is no mystery as top how the Samuel Alito confirmation hearings will
play themselves out. The media keeps predicting he will not be as
"polished" as John Roberts. That's not exactly fair. Roberts was one of a
kind. However the ones who come off looking un polished are the Democrats.
Their performance during Roberts heating was both comical and pathetic.
Time after time the Democrats whined that Roberts was evading questions
when in fact he was correcting them and putting certain memos and ruling
in their proper perspective. The Democrats have a nasty habit of trying to
interpret a certain opinion or ruling into ammo for themselves therefore
taking the opinion out of context. How is a nominee supposed to answer if
the question is loaded with his or her own words? Half the time they had
it wrong and the other half they simply were not happy with the answer
because it did not jive with there assumptions. Samuel Alito's hearing's will be no different except they will have more of an accusatory feel. They have already confirmed that they will try to paint him as a racist. What happened to questions pertaining to whether or not he is qualified? The problem is that the is qualified. More so than most. However in today’s political climate the Democrats seem to think that even though they are in the minority and we are in the midst of a Republican administration they should be allowed to pick who is to be on the supreme court. Samuel Alito's qualifications are completely moot as far as the left goes. Look at what we know already. They are talking about invoking the one week delay clause so they can dig up more dirt and weaken the momentum. Most of the Democrats on the judicial committee have already said they would filibuster if they do not like his answers a far as abortion goes. Chucky Schumer said Alito needs more scrutiny because he as a long paper trail. Now this is the same Chucky Schumer who said John Roberts needs to be closely scrutinized because he has no paper trail. These guys change the rules as they go. Whether or not Alito is filibustered will depend on whether or not the it will hurt the Democrats in the upcoming election. Either way we know that He will be confirmed unless some terrible skeleton emerges from his closet. Even though the Democrats will get an extra week to find that skeleton He will be confirmed though much crying and indignation shall be present. I can say this, these hearings will be both entertain pathetic...Kind of like the Democratic party. -Bert |
