ALITO HEARINGS DAY THREE
Well we now know that the Democrats do take their cues from the Liberal media. The ultra left bloggers crtisized the Democrats for being too civil to Judge Alito. Since when is Civil a bad thing? Anyway today the came out with pop guns a blazing...and came up with nothing again. They tried to paint him as a racist and failed. They tried to get his personal beliefs on Abortion and failed. They even tried to paint a conspiracy with his involvement with the Vanguard hearings...and failed. Teddy Kennedy was so upset that he decided to show his distaste for Alito by calling Senator Spectre a liar. He tried to shut down the hearings in order to have a closed vote on subpeonas for more info on Alitos CAP assiciation...and failed. They did manage to make Mrs. Alito cry. Nat a total waste of a day I suppose... -Bert SAMUEL ALITO HEARINGS DAY TWO Few surprises today. The Democrats for the most part held their cool and Aito answered more questions than I expected. He looked cool, polished and at times, confident. He never referred to notes and knew of every case the committee brought up. On occasion he had a look of shock, confusion, and maybe Gall that the Democrats could be so arrogant and condescending. Senator Leahy tried to be cool and bring up Alito's involvement with CAP as a means of labeling him a bigot . Alito deftly worded his way around that and the entire issue was deflated for the day when Orin Hatch directly asked him if he was a racist. As ecpected Kennedy had everything prepared for him and he often sounded like he was pontificating rather than asking questions. When Alito corrected certain statements he made Kennedy became confused because he did not do his own homework. He scored points when he suceeded in pronouncing Alito's name right. Joe Biden as expected tried to hide his lack of constitutional knowledge by pretending to be intelectual and in the process said nothing of value. I missed Dick Durbin as most probably did. He's a good time to get lunch. He's pointless anyway. Chuck Schumer was, well Chuck Schumer. He asked Alito his stance on abortion and when Alito as expected did not answer he asked him again, and again, and again... -Bert SAMUEL ALITO HEARINGS DAY ONE Well
today was simply opening speeches. A chance for the politicians to talk
uninterrupted. They love that. Makes them feel very important. The
Democrats as predicted laid out their case in speeches that sounded more
like warnings. Answer all our questions or else. Here’s what else I
noticed... Leaky Leahy used his ten minutes to bash the Bush administration by accusing them of bowing to the far right of the party. (A bit cheeky since the Democrats have regular conversations with the "Daily Kos". One of the most extreme of the left win site.) Anyway Leahy also said that Miers was rejected because the Republicans did not like the way she answered questions. I find that hypocritical because Fienstien and Schumer have said on television that if Alito answers certain question in a certain way he may be filibuster. Teddy Kennedy lied through his teeth when he said that the majority of Americans are against the wiretapping. Joseph Biden made no sense at all and most every one else said in essence that if Alito is not along the line of a Sandra Day O'Conner he will be filibustered. nothing surprising I suppose. However the thing that matters whether he is qualified and whether he has an agenda. That never came up. -Bert |
