It never truly registered with me until today First there was Ted
Kennedy on one of the morning shows that promise to never ask Democrats
tough questions in between cooking segments. He said "Bush was obsessed
with victory in Iraq". I like to use WW II for examples because it was the
last time we won a war together. Anyway I don't recall FDR ever saying "A
victory in Germany would be great" If the commander in chief does not have
total confidence in the cause what kind of message does it send to the
troops? Old Ted Kennedy, the Mark Spitz of Washington is upset that George
Bush really wants to succeed in Iraq. Why? What is wrong with
winning? Then I read this piece in the New York Post by a person who
pretends to be writer. These lines jumped out at me...
"Write off the democracy goal as a
draw, declare a tactical victory, and withdraw in good
order."
Then he
says this...
"Of course a terrible mess will be
left"
So it's
surrender now regardless of the consequences. What happened to winning?
Other than elections the Democrats have never mentioned winning. Why?
While trodding down the path to becoming the most powerful nation on the
planet we must have won a few battles along the way. At those particular
times did they say "Well win if you can"?
Can anyone tell me if Alexander the Great, on his way to conquering
Persia said "Look if it gets too bloody I'll be happy with Berlin".
Hitler's call to arms was not "France if at all possible. If not I'll
settle for Poland"
If you're a soldier in Baghdad what would you
prefer your commander in chief to say?
"we will stay the course,
and adapt as needed"
Or
"The idea that we are winning this
war is just plain wrong" (Thank you Doctor Dean for the sound
byte)
Would we be a country at all if Washington looked out over
the frozen water and said to himself "Well we lost 250 good men last week
and that river does look rather cold. Let's pack it in and go to
Vegas...."
Those in the elements have the balls to remain committed
to victory no matter how often they sleep in their boots. No matter how
extreme the temperature gets. No matter how bloody the battle becomes.
You'd think the left who is thousands of miles away could at least pretend
to want total
victory.
