THE "V" WORD

President Bush succeeded in giving Nancy Pelosi and company some nasty heartburn. Madame speaker was forced to keep her ample backside glued to her thrown as did the rest of the Democratic party when President said the "V" word...

Victory.

Sure the Left stood to clap whenever the President mentioned the troops. it looks good for photo ops but as soon as he mentioned he was committed to victory in Iraq the hands went under their asses and they stayed firmly planted on the polyester. There was no way in hell they were going to even contemplate the possibility of victory in Iraq. A Victory in Iraq within the next year will destroy any chance of the left holding either the house or senate. Hillary, who has been hiding from her Iraq vote for more than three years will be DOA.

There situation has become even more complex. Victor Davis Hanson made an excellent assessment after the speech, “Apparently the party line is that we can’t win, but we’re afraid to pull out in case we do, and so we will equivocate as we watch the battlefield and make the necessary rhetorical adjustments just in time.” Basically they are sitting on the fence assessing which garden is greener while publicly denouncing what is growing in the one garden and hoping nothing but weeds blossoms in the other.

What have they got against victory? Well to begin with they don't see Iraq as a war, but a situation. So in their defense I can see why Victory in a situation would not seem like a big issue. The war is not about Iraq. it's about Bush. Are the troops aware of this?

What is wrong with saying "We'd like to win but we are concerned about the insurgents" See by saying that you do not upset the troops or embolden Al Sader. Unfortunately the left has never done that. Instead they have taken a page out of Uncle Walters playbook. and invoke the other "V" word every chance they get...

Vietnam...

Last I checked Vietnam was 30 years ago. The left hasn't changed their position since then. It's all about vision or lack there of. They criticizes President Bush's Iraq plan at the onset yet never offered their own plan. The Democrats response to the State of the union was to send out Jim Webb with some pictures. His, like every other Democratic response was total negativity and defeatism. The plan for Iraq cannot and has not worked.

Compare Webb’s response...

"The president took us into this war recklessly,'' and.."He disregarded warnings from the national security adviser during the first Gulf War, the chief of staff of the Army, two former commanding generals of the Central Command. ..."

To Joeseh Liebermans..

I applaud the President for rejecting the fatalism of failure and pursuing a new course to achieve success in Iraq. Our troops have sacrificed much and now more will be asked of them to defend our nation. They fight in a just, noble and moral cause against the forces of terrorism, and their sacrifices will make America and the world more secure. I want our troops to return home as soon as possible — after we allow, enable and support them in accomplishing their mission in Iraq in finishing this fight.”

This is where Lieberman really separates himself from the Democrats..

“I know there are deep differences of opinion about what the President has proposed tonight. In the coming days and weeks, we should undertake respectful debate and deliberation over this new plan. But, let us also remember that excessive partisan division and rancor at home only weakens our will to prevail in this war.”

Meanwhile the rest of the party is still claiming that if we have not won by now we won't at all.

Is there a universal timetable for war? Apparently the Liberals expected the entire thing to be completed in a week. They also expected the war to be fought flawlessly. Some Democratic strategist, probably Paul Begala, decided the lefts best strategy would be to replace the word Victory with the word Vietnam at every turn. Iraq is the new Vietnam. They have so much in common....

They're both countries...
They're both located in warm climates...
People died in both wars...

Other than that there is no comparison except maybe most of the "Experts" the left drags in front of the camera last saw action in Vietnam. 30 years ago....

Yet the left continues to invoke the Vietnam comparison. It is this writers opinion that the Democrats want the United States to be embarrassed again. To see the images of our soldiers leaving from Iraq. The kind of thing that brings a prideful tear to uncle Walters eye. They are at their zenith of happiness when we as a nation are hurting. President Bush is fighting tooth and nail to avoid a Jimmy Carter type atmosphere and the Democrats resent him for that.
