Here’s one for you: what do you call a liberal who runs a clean election campaign? Trick question; like the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster, such a beast does not exist.

Liberals have once again begun circling the wagon in an attempt to shield Senator Barack Obama from wild accusations made by politicians introducing John McCain that Obama’s middle name is Hussein. I know, crazy isn’t it? Except that his middle name is Hussein. So what’s the problem?

I suppose I can understand where he’s coming from though. I imagine if Franklin Roosevelt’s middle name had been Adolf, he would have tried pretty darn hard to keep his opponents from repeating it time and time again. Then again, Roosevelt was elected in the late twenties (according to Joe Biden), when few people in the United States had any idea who Adolf Hitler was. Right?

What’s the big deal? Obama’s middle name is Hussein. Are we not allowed to know that? Why is it that when a teenage computer geek hacks into the Republican VP candidates private e-mail account it’s treated as little more than a joke in the eyes of the media, but when a few politicians - not affiliated with the McCain campaign in any way other than that they introduced him at a rally - dare to utter Obama’s middle name, suddenly the McCain campaign is accused of playing dirty tricks?

And what is John McCain supposed to do – publicly berate his supporters and demand that they apologize to his opponent? Just like Obama himself did when he implied that the Republican VP candidate is a pig, which earned a healthy round of cheering and applause. Oh, that’s right, he never apologized for that, nor did he correct the ‘misconception’ that he had implied it. And where was the mainstream media, demanding that he apologize for running a dirty campaign? Sorry, they were too busy ignoring every stupid comment to come out of Joe Biden’s mouth to notice.

For all their whining and crying about the Republicans turning to dirty tricks to gain ground, the Democrats have been running a smear campaign from the very beginning, and they know it. They have never held back on their attacks of John McCain and Sarah Palin. They’ve called her a pig, made fun of the fact that he can’t raise his arms above his head, and that he doesn’t know how to send an e-mail. I’ve got news for you liberals out there: a lot of elderly people don’t use computers and have no idea what e-mail is, and they vote – in droves. Far more elderly people in America vote than do college-aged Obama drones. These are not the people you want to alienate.

And while our side has ramped up the personal attacks a bit, you didn’t see one nut wearing a pink t-shirt interrupting Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, calling him a baby killer or a fascist. No, those attacks come from the Democrats. And while we’re on the subject of being called a fascist warmonger and terrorist, who has been called every name in the book for the past eight years? The president of our own United States has been called an idiot and likened to Hitler by the un-bathed masses, and not once have the Republicans called foul.

So now, when we fight fire with fire by using Obama’s middle name and calling him out for his ignorance on any number of issues, we’re “fighting dirty”. So be it. I say it’s time to call a spade a spade. Oops! I’m sure you liberals will see that as hate speech, but my gloves, too, are off. It’s time we conservatives roll up our pants and get down in the gutter and fight the liberals where they hide. That’s the only way we’re going to win this election and then all will be right with America . It’s time someone tells Mr. Obama that he’s running for President of the United States , not senior class president. It’s time to man up.
