BEWARE OF THE FALLING MESSIAH

8/22/2008

According to the press Senator Barack Obama parted the Atlantic Ocean as he traveled to Iraq where he settled the Iraq War. Three weeks on however it looks as though his ankles got a little wet… It’s no surprise that McCain has run a less than stellar campaign but to say Obama has under achieved is an understatement on par with Neville Chamberlain’s claim that he “might have been wrong about that German chap”.

In July alone Obama raised 50 million, outspent McCain 3 to 1 with 55 million going to media costs. He traveled to Iraq and had his 16 month withdrawal plan endorsed by Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki. He spent nine minutes in Afghanistan, shook hands with Nicholas Sarkozy, and spoke to 200,000 drunk Germans. For all his effort he found himself statistically tied with John McCain, lost 10 electoral votes and saw McCain gain 16 electoral votes and close the favorability gap to less than 3 percentage points.

So what happened?

Well despite the media’s best attempts there is a distinct disconnect between Obama and many of the American public and this disconnect was solidified in Germany. At the same time people are beginning to wonder Obama will start being specific in his speeches. Bold and magnanimous generalizations will only work until the race tightens and the populace tunes in. As we head into the Democrat convention the questions will only get tougher. Especially after Obama’s crash and burn performance at Rick Warren’s Civil Forum last weekend. Platitudes are not enough to convince someone to vote for you. Obama seems ignorant to this….or perhaps arrogant…
