JOHN McCAIN THE REAGAN ANTICHRIST
01/15/2008

The sudden reenergizing of John McCain's presidential campaign has caused many a Conservative to lose control of certain, everyday bodily functions. More to the point, a large portion of the Republican base have begun penance by sticking forks into their thighs ever since McCain was successful in changing the immigration debate from Amnesty to border security. McCain has the country's attention and at the moment the majority of it does not seem to remember most of McCain's less than stellar work. In fact the press has given him a free pass. As long as Rudy Giuliani is considered the most liberal of the Republican candidates Senator McCain's tendencies to undo Conservative policies will go unnoticed.

McCain fought the Bush tax cuts which resulted in the cuts being much weaker than planned. He is of course is the co-author of McCain-Feingold A lovely bit of legislation there. And of course the Gang of fourteen. At the heart of McCain’s mid year plummet in the polls was his work with Teddy Kennedy on immigration. More to the point-Amnesty for illegal immigrants.

It appears McCain has made a career out of hampering Senate Republicans from passing social conservative bills. From Drilling in Anwar to Embryonic stem cells McCain is always on the wrong end of the debate. As president one has to shudder at the prospect of a president McCain working with the Democrats to further liberal policies that have proven to be failure time after time after time.

John McCain is right on the war and wrong on just about everything else and it's kind of strange that the base has propelled him into the lead when, at the same time making statements about needing another Reagan. John McCain is as about as Reaganesque as Bill Clinton is morally and ethically honest
