| I don't know about you dear reader but I am
certainly sick and tired of hearing about the 100 hours in congress. This
first 100 hours id about as anti climactic as a Sean Penn
film. Wow. Nancy Pelosi has already bombed on the ethics pledge. sure they passed a bill about lobbyists and private jets but what about John Conyers admitting to his ethics problems? What about Mollohan, and Jefferson? Minimum wage will serve the 5 million who will actually benefit from it well. The problem is many states already adopted wage increases so as I said very anti climactic. Lets discuss what should have been on the agenda the first 100 legislative ours.... Iraq. Well why not? The Democrats have been harping about the war for three years by either questioning every move by the Bush administration or by coming straight out and saying we can't win. The entire 2006 campaign was based on Ethics (which we have discussed) and the war. So one has to come to the conclusion that if the war was so important why was it not part of the first 100 hours? The promised a new direction. they never told us what that direction is and we heard nothing beyond withdrawal since November 8th. One would thing that they would make it part of their opening extravaganza considering it has been their only real talking point for three years. Conservatives biggest criticism of the left was their lack of a plan for Iraq. Well they took control yesterday afternoon and we still don't know what their plan is. They relied heavily on the Iraq Surrender Groups findings. Four days in Iraq were enough for James baker to give us 75 ways to surrender. Within 72 hours the study sank like Michael Moore on a raft. So they are stuck with the run away version of their "new direction". Then there is immigration. Besides the war illegal immigration is the single most important issue to voters. Not college tuition. A wall, implementation of the current immigration laws...something I should think would be on the docket for the first 100 hours. I can however see why. Being that the majority of the country is opposed to mass Amnesty why start of the legislative session with unpopular legislation. One has to wonder if they will tackle the issue at all. So what do they plan for the post 100 hours? We know they will investigate every policy the Bush administration has implemented since day one. We know they plan to deconstruct every one of these policy's. What we don't know is what they plan to do. I doubt they will do anything. -Bert |
